Personality:

Kanda is only 10 years of age, although he looks to be 19/20 physically. This is important to note due to the lack of experience Kanda has had in his young life. The first people he met were ones that physically tormented him, hurt him, and lied to him. This experience has shaped who he is today. It was nature rather than nurture which defined his personality, and this shows in his callous behavior toward those around him. Although he is callous, there are a few people he's grown warmer to such as Noise Marie and Lenalee. These two individuals, in particular, Kanda is shown reserving his violent nature towards although his responses to the both of them could still be considered cold and uncaring.

Some of Kanda's irritation comes up when he feels as if he's being made a mockery of: if someone doesn't take him seriously, if they call him familiar names, if they behave familiar toward him (like trying to touch him, hug him, etc), Kanda can be explosive at times and responds with violent threats or physical violence. Kanda is sometimes irritable towards himself too, especially if he doesn't feel like he's pushing himself as hard as he needs to, or could be. Kanda is often recklessly engaged in fights, pushing himself and his power to death - or near death. Despite this violent and explosive side of him Kanda can be incredibly disciplined and collected. In one part of the series Kanda remains still, seemingly like he's in a trance, and suddenly bursts to life claiming he was only waiting for the opportune time to attack by fooling everyone around him that he was zoned out. In addition to this example, Kanda also meditates, trains, and continues to seek growth with each and every fight. Recently, Kanda's Master (General Tiedoll) had mentioned Kanda having reached Critical Point at some time. This indicates that Kanda may have even reserved his full potential in the eyes of witnesses for some time, like someone hiding an ace up their sleeve.

Speaking of ace up their sleeve, allow me to speak on Allen- or Beansprout. For quite some time Kanda and Allen's relationship has been an almost comedic rivalry throughout the story. They often spend their time together in banter, exchanging threats, and even fighting. At first Kanda's impression of Allen was not a positive one. Allen is cursed by an akuma and Kanda found this particular trait of Allen's to be abhorrent. He did not care for Allen nor the optimistic, savior-type complex Allen is known for. Kanda is goal-oriented, first and foremost his inner most goals need to be secure, and for some time he had used the Black Order to pursue his intrinsic motivation. While going on missions with Allen, Kanda reiterated their purpose as Exorcists; to collect innocence and destroy akuma. Allen's position is more akin to, "how can I save everyone: humans in the crossfire, the akuma, the souls, etc." Kanda is seen to be particularly less interested in the impact of their missions on others, even innocent bystanders, and he's only interested in the results.

The Black Order did anything to achieve the results they wanted and that was instilled in Kanda. Kanda is a Second Exorcist, which was a secret experimental program that was made to create reborn exorcists from dead exorcists and refuse them with the innocence they had in their former lives. He is the only one to have survived this program. Kanda carries resentment for the Black Order after the Alma incident his feelings, his past, all of it came to light. After Alma's arc, Kanda disappeared for some time and during that time the Black Order was sure they would not ever see him again. However, he ends up returning to the Black Order and confirms Alma's death and to say that he hasn't forgiven The Black Order. His friends Noise Marie and Lenalee are surprised to see him return, after all, they considered this a perfect escape for Kanda to be free from the Order. Yet Kanda does not feel free, because Allen's position of saving everyone has impacted him and Alma, and he cannot die before he feels like he's made it up to Allen, that he's paid Allen back for the kindness and the freedom he'd received by the main protagonist.

The point I take Kanda from I truly believe he can start to heal and develop from where he's been stagnant emotionally for the last ten years. The trauma he endured with Alma acted like a stint that kept Kanda from being able to mature, to grow, and the only thing he has been able to do was develop his skills, his connection with his innocence. At this stage we see Kanda making a choice for himself, to leave the Black Order in order to help Allen. However, even still at this decision Kanda and Allen still continue to get into quarrels.

Other traits to note, Kanda is stubborn. Perhaps it's a part of the determination he has, Kanda's stubbornness often comes up as a point of tension between other members of the Order and himself. Kanda can be mean, Lenalee is - if you would imagine - a sweet young woman with a heart of gold, she cares for everyone and loves all of her friends, even Kanda. Yet, even to her he can say ugly things like, "you're face is ugly.. it's all that stupid crying you do.. you're all swollen.." Even if he knows the crying was likely (absolutely positively) due to her worrying over her friends. Kanda is a romantic in the sense that he's lived his life thus far searching for the woman he's haunted by from his previous life. He made a promise with this woman to meet her in a field of lotuses no matter how long it would take and has been living up to this point just to do that. "I have to find them.. I can't die until I find them.." Kanda currently is not bound by that promise and instead is pursuing a promise to protect Allen. Kanda is also loyal. Despite cutting ties with the Black Order organization, there are still people in the order that Kanda has demonstrated being loyal to. His main objective is to protect Allen and Kanda will do what he can to make sure he fulfills this vow. Kanda can work effectively with others as a good teammate. Kanda can also demonstrate a gentle side, however, this was only really seen with Alma thus far. Other times have been with Noise Marie, when he saves him in his childhood, and times when Lenalee is distressed.

Weaknesses/Temptations:

- Kanda had been haunted by the one he loved from a previous life. He'll definitely be haunted by the fact that he's killed the one he loves in this lifetime.
- Kanda has a weakness of hallucinations, visual and auditory.
- Kanda's temptations derive from the desire to prove himself. He generally meets any challenge and will continue to push himself until he's near death or dies.
- Lotus flower is both a temptation and a weakness, the sight of them brings him pause.

Evidently I'm behind some years in the technology advancement here. I'm still getting used to this communicator. It's a lot more complicated than what I know.

That being said, I ran across another device that is difficult to understand and I would appreciate some assistance. It's called a microwave. I'm supposed to be able to warm my food up..?

(... Yeah, that's about all he has to say for the moment. It's a trivial problem in contrast to being in Hell, but one step at a time. First was conquering the coffee machine, now it's the microwave, tomorrow... well, it just might be the washer and dryer.)
